Pride Week presents an opportunity for the whole league to highlight, embrace and celebrate the diversity of human beings. It provides everyone in the sport the chance to demonstrate their support and inclusion of people from all walks of life, no matter their gender or sexual orientation.
The commitment on and off the ice in previous years has been amazing, and has seen players and staff use colourful pride stick tape and pride armbands, as well as fans showing their support with lots of colour and pride flags in the stands.
We are proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and want everyone to know that Fire hockey night is a safe, fun and friendly environment where the Fire Family welcomes you.
Player-Coach Elis Sheppard said:
The celebration of Pride within the Cardiff Fire organisation demonstrates that we are an inclusive and diverse team who embrace the slogan ‘hockey is for everyone.’ It is important to commemorate and show our support.
Operations and Media Manager James Assinder said:
As a gay man I’m immensely proud to see the support my club has shown since the first Pride Week in 2022, and the amazing response of the Fire Family fan base to show that our games are welcome to everyone all year round.
The Cardiff Devils have lead the way since 2017 and it has been a privilege to capture the Pride games both for clubs over the years. It’s also been a pleasure to see our fans participating with fans of the Devils in the Pride Cymru parades in Cardiff.
I look forward to seeing the Cardiff hockey family as a whole continue to stand in solidarity and allyship with the LGBTQ+ community this Pride Night and beyond.
Join the Fire Family on January 25th as we celebrate Pride and share the message that our sport is for all #HockeyIsForEveryone
