Cardiff Fire NIHL 2 announce squad for 2017/18 season

Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce the NIHL 2 (development) squad for the 20/17/18 season. Cardiff Fire’s NIHL 2 team will be playing in the 3rd tier of British hockey, 1 tier above what Cardiff Fire played inlets season due to the league re-structure. The purpose of the NIHL 2 team is development of young players and to offer a competitive and exciting brand of hockey. Fire have taken a whole host of players from the Cardiff junior system with the hope of developing them to 2nd tier players and beyond.

Fire have retained a number of experienced players from last seasons title winning team to aid with this development and grow the club.

The experienced and well travelled Alan Armour makes his return to the Fire line-up and will add a ton of experience and guidance for young players moving up. Joining him from last season team will be Ross Wilkinson, Dan Self, Joe Morris, player coach Gareth Dixon, Jordon Baber and team GM Ricky Deacon.

We also welcome the return to the ice of former Elite League Cardiff Devil Michael Hutchings, Mike spent the 2007/08 season with the Cardiff Devils while icing for the NIHL 1 team. Mike joined the Army and has also played for the British Army Hockey team on many occasions.

Head Coach Gareth Dixon had his to say on his team for 17/18 “We’ve got an exciting team that has the potential to achieve a lot this year. We have a good mix of experience and youth and will be looking to give players a platform to show what they can do a push for a place with our division 1 team.

It was a hectic summer preparing for 2 teams to operate in the newly structured NIHL but will be an exciting challenge I believe we will rise to and show the depth of talent within the Club.”
