Statement on 2018/19 season 

Cardiff Fire will return to one team for the 2018/19 season. 

The decision has been to return the club to one team in NIHL Division two for next season following a series on unforeseen circumstances.

Mark Cuddihy continued “Unfortunately, there have been a number of unforeseen circumstances which have caused us to make the decision to withdraw from the league.

Up until 4 weeks ago, I felt we had the best summer for recruitment in a long time. However last Friday everything changed it was hands down the worst. 

I am completely devastated to have to withdraw for the coming season, however my job is to ensure the longevity of Cardiff Fire and the harsh reality is we were in danger of that not being the case had I not acted and made this tough decision.

Former Cardiff Devils player James Manson joins the Fire

Cardiff Fire are delighted to announce that James Manson will join for the rest of the season and will play tonight.

This will be Mansons 2nd spell with the Fire after joining in Fire’s first season.

Mason is a British standard triathlete and has been focusing his efforts on triathlons since winding down his hockey career.

During his career James Manson came through the Cardiff junior system and went on to represent the Cardiff Devils in the Elite League. Mansons hockey career has seen him play for Manchester, Telford, Guildford, Basingstoke and Swindon. Playing Elite, BNL, EPL, ENL and NIHL.

Michael Hutchings joins Cardiff Fire 1 full time

Former Cardiff Devils Elite League player Michael Hutchings has stepped up to Cardiff Fire’s Division 1 team full time with immediate effect. ‘Hutchy’ took time out from Hockey whilst paying in the Elite League for the Cardiff Devils to join the British Army where he served for 10 years. During his time away Hutchy played hockey for the British Army in the Uk and in Canada, additionally helping out the NIHL 1 team whilst on leave from the Army.

The speedy winger (28) has played all his career in Cardiff and at age 18 signed a two-way contract between the National league team and the Elite League team, skating every day with the top team.

Fire Goalie Lewis Davies Makes Great Britain squad

Cardiff Fire goaltender Lewis Davies has been selected to play for GB under 18’s at the upcoming world championships in Tallinn, Estonia. GB are competing in Division 2 Group A and the tournament runs from 1st April to the 7th April 2018

GB will come up against Estonia, Australia, Lithuania and Poland.

Lewis joins Jordan Lawday as the 2nd Fire goaltender to be selected for the national team this season and all at Cardiff Fire would like to wish Lewis and team GB good luck for the upcoming world championships.
