Former Cardiff Devils Elite League player Michael Hutchings has stepped up to Cardiff Fire’s Division 1 team full time with immediate effect. ‘Hutchy’ took time out from Hockey whilst paying in the Elite League for the Cardiff Devils to join the British Army where he served for 10 years. During his time away Hutchy played hockey for the British Army in the Uk and in Canada, additionally helping out the NIHL 1 team whilst on leave from the Army.
The speedy winger (28) has played all his career in Cardiff and at age 18 signed a two-way contract between the National league team and the Elite League team, skating every day with the top team.
Mark Cuddihy added “Hutchy contacted me in the summer to say he was leaving the Army and returning to Cardiff and wanted to return to competitive hockey. He started out in the Fire 2 team but we knew this move was on the cards. I didn’t expect him to hit the ground running as fast as he has. He’s played up a few times for us and has done an outstanding job. He’s a great addition to our team and brings a lot of experience with him. He’s a senior guy in the room and that exactly what we need right now. I’m delighted to have him back”
