We are delighted to announce that goaltender Luke Takel will be back between the pipes for the Cardiff Fire next season.
Pontypool born Takel has been a stalwart for the Fire since it’s formation and has been part of the Cardiff NIHL set up for over 10 years. Starting his career in Cardiff juniors Takel progressed to the senior team in 07/08 enjoying 10 further seasons.
31 year old Takel has been with the Fire since it’s formation sharing the net with Joe Myers. Winning two league titles along the way. In the first season Luke ended with a 95% save percentage and in last seasons Championship team a 94% save average.
Luke was also selected to play in the NIHL select team to play against Basingstoke Bison and earned himself rave reviews from their fans with an outstanding display.
Mark Cuddihy added “I’m delighted to have Taks back for another season, he’s a player I trust 100% he brings everything to practice every week and that shows in his games. His effort all week is phenomenal. He’s been with me a long time and a dressing room without him wouldn’t have been the same. He’s now a very experienced goalie and I’m sure he will be a big help to our younger goalies coming through.
Luke has worked with Mike Brabon & Joe Myers in the past and they all know each other very well. Having spoken to Luke a fair bit in the summer he’s very excited about the challenges that we will face next season. He had a taste at the end of last season when he played against the Bison and he did a really really good job. He’s a team first guy and very well liked within our dressing room. Its great to have him back for this challenge”
