The Cardiff Fire have made the decision to part ways with player-coach Chris Douglas. The netminder was brought in this past summer to take the helm, but the Fire have made the decision to move in another direction. The Fire would like to thank Chris for his service during the season and wish him every success with his future endeavours. Chris wont be leaving Cardiff as he looks to take up a roll with Cardiff Juniors.
Returning to the bench will be current Director of Player Development Mark Smith. The former NCAA and Elite League Defenceman will bring nearly a decade of professional Ice Hockey experience with him and looks to instil a strong work ethic and culture of accountability within the team. Phil Manny will continue as assistant coach and will work closely with the management team.
Director of Hockey Mark Cuddihy added “These decisions are always difficult but I feel it suits all parties, Chris was getting much busier with his day job and was traveling a great deal to cover both roles, it was quite a lot on his plate. I am delighted that he will be sticking around and helping Cardiff juniors.
We are very lucky that Smitty has agreed to combine the two roles. Having worked with Mark last season I know that the guys will have to react and work hard as we look to improve our league position”
