Cardiff Fire goalie Jordan Lawday makes Team GB

Cardiff Fire are delighted to share the news that teenage goalie Jordan Lawday has made team GB under 20’s for the upcoming world championships following a successful training camp in Sheffield.

The 2017 world championships will be held Dumfries from the 10th to 16th December. GB will face Estonia, Japan, Netherlands, Romania and Korea in Division 2 group A.

Jordan has been a revelation since joying the Fire last month and we know he will do himself and the club proud representing Great Britain.  We wish him and the rest of the team good luck in the coming world championships.

Fire sign GB player Jordan Lawday from North American team Ogden Mustangs

Cardiff fire are delighted to announce that 19 year old Jordan Lawday will sign for the remainder of the 2017/18 season.

Basingstoke goalie Jordan Lawday began his junior career with the Basingstoke junior club progressing on to the the NIHL team at the age of just 16, playing in 9 games with a 91.9% save percentage.  Lawday continued playing U18, U20 and NIHL with the Basingstoke club with all his stats being plus 90% earning himself a call-up to the GB U18 national team and playing in the world championships as starting net minder.

The following season (2016/17) Jordan Headed to the US to progress his hockey career signing for the Soo Indians U18’s in Michigan, again with stats north of 90% playing in 22 games for the American outfit...

The National Ice Hockey League are pleased to announce the first winners of the NIHL Player of the Month awards.
Each division in the NIHL – Moralee, Laidler, Britton and Wilkinson – sees a player recognised for their performances throughout the month of September, as chosen by a panel of ice hockey media who watch NIHL hockey.
The September winners are:
North 1 (Moralee) – Iain Bowie (Solway Sharks)
North 2 (Laidler) – Ollie Barron (Widnes Wild)
South 1 (Britton) – Ryan Watt (Streatham IHC)
South 2 (Wilkinson) – Stephen Woodford (Haringey Huskies)

Luke Piggott signs part time for Cardiff Fire

Cardiff Devils forward/coach Luke Piggott has signed a part time deal with the Cardiff Fire and will play games when the schedule allows.

Luke first played for the Cardiff NIHL/ENL team back in 2004 whilst still a junior player. Luke went on to have another 7 seasons with Cardiff NIHL/ENL scoring 207 points in 148 games (112+95) before joining the Elite League team full time in 2011. Since joining up with the Devils Luke has had a lot of success winning the Erhardt conference twice, EIHL cup twice and was part of the EIHL championship winning season last year.

This season Luke has made the step into coaching with the Devils and his experience around the team will be invaluable.
